Kate Forrester

As a designer I am highly influenced by other areas of design, music, fashion and illustration feeds my practice as a designer each day. I find myself looking at illustration for inspiration as i find the way illustrators work and their final outcomes are visually stimulating. I came across the work of Kate Forrester whilst working on a typography brief. Kate produces some stunning work for big name clients such as Harvey Nichols. I love her work as each of her designs are carefully executed.

Mark Howe

Mark Howe is an illustrator with a background in graphic design. His work excites me as it looks visually stimulating as well as showing clear communication. Howes designs are fun and quirky containing depth and flexibility as well as showing similar characteristics to images. I have been a huge fan of his work for a while now.

Brochure illustrations for make your mark designed for Elmwood, I love how he incorporates text with his own handrawn text and own doodles.

Jason Lawes and Sam Cartmell

Whilst working on a recent YCN brief myself and a fellow student decided to delve into the world of copywriting as a concept to answering the brief. Research led us to looking at the print campaign made especially for Tesco. The ad campaign featuring a granny smith apple was created by Jason Lawes and Sam Cartmell from Lowe London. For me I love how simple and witty the idea is.

Jessica Hische

Jessica Hische is a designer/ illustrator currently living in Brooklyn, New York. She spends her days designing and drawing type and i was instantly drawn to her blog. Her ongoing project

' Daily Drop cap' is one of my favourites. A project started in September 2009, Hische illustrates a decorative letter each day, and each letter is carefully executed and shows her love for hand drawn type. 

I also found a very helpful ' frequently asked questions page' whilst searching her blog which gave some useful and insightful information into Hische's insiprations and design process.

Leaf Carvings

I came across these leaf carvings whilst browsing design blogs. Created by artists in China they cut and remove the leaf's mesophyll to produce an artwork without cutting or removing any leaf veins. Pretty amazing idea!

   

Designer Barcode

Found these very unusual but quirky designs on the Graphichug blog. Designed by the Japanese they have some really nice ideas behind them as well as being very detailed. I think they all add a nice touch to a simple boring barcode.
