Fold7

Whilst browsing through the Form fifty five blog I came across the work of a design agency called Fold7. I really liked the work that was shown so decided to have a look at their website.

Fold7 is an independant creative agency based in London. Their client list contains brands such as Ministry of Sound, Virgin, Ted Baker, Orange, Molton Brown and Marks and Spencer.

My favourite piece of work was one of their branding campaigns for Ted Baker. Ted Baker is one of Folds founding clients and they have worked together for over 14 years producing many different projects. I really like how this project is imaginative and really appealing.

I have since emailed Fold7 to find out more information about their work ethics and advice about getting into the design industry, I look forward and hope that they will reply back to me!

Glorious Creative

As James had informed us that we would be having a guest lecture by Glourious creative coming into college soon i thought i would read up on them and have a look at their work online.

Glorious creative is a design agency based in Manchester. They have been named as 1 of the top 5 of the North England design consultancy of the year and describe themselves as '' We are identity specialists who are renowned for creative thinking and craft skills and we enjoy the challenge of problem solving''

I quite liked the work they had produced, imparticularly their project called 'Pay and display ticket' The brief for this project was set by Liverpool and Manchester design initative who decided to hold an exhibition at a NCP car park. The solution to this brief was to generate awareness through word of mouth and Glorious did this by using the location as a direction. Therefore they produced invitations which were created in the style of a parking ticket. I think this is a really clever and effective idea.

I also liked there identity work that they produced for the Rose design awards. Every year before the awards Liverpool and Manchester design iniative hosts a design symposium which is used to create debates about current issues. Glourious have designed the material for this for the past 5 years and created different posters to appeal to the target audience. My favourite is the 'Love or Money' poster as i really like the loose feel of the typography.

Kerry Roper

When one of the Multimedia students told me about Kerry Ropers work and how he works for clothes shop Topshop i decided to have a look at his work! Kerry Roper studied Graphic design and advertising at Buckinghamshire college. Roper is now an established Designer and Illustrator and his work combines traditional illustration, photography and typography. Aswell as designing for Topshop Roper has also designed sleeves for record labels such as Hed Kandi and Peacefrog.

The images above were illustrated by Roper for the Snickers advertising campaign. These striking hand drawn images remind me of the Hybrid ideas we came up with in the first year where we combined different elements with each other to create one image.

Re: Craig Oldham reply

So.... Craig Oldham replied to my email today. It was nice to know that he managed to find time as a busy designer to sit down and make time to answer my questions. I found his answers really useful and he answered them honestly and in detail. Craig also told me that he will be attending College in March to give a lecture so i look forward to seeing more of his work.

I have attached his emails into my blog.... couldn't find the best way to attach the whole email as it was quite long so its in different sections... if anyone has any idea on how I can do it please let me know!!

Re: Craig Oldham

Whilst working hard in Uni today on my day off with Laura, working on our logo live brief. I got very excited when i checked my emails and had a reply off Craig Oldham!

However, Craig was replying to me to let me know that he is quite bogged down with work at the moment and therefore i will have to bear with him a few days until he can answer my questions!

Craig Oldham

Craig Oldham is a Graphic designer who first launched his  design career in 2006 and now works at The Chase. I found his website quite interesting and it was also a very long read..... it contained a lot and i mean ALOT of words about his life and his work and Oldham even states that ' no -one ever writes much on their websites anymore' which is true when looking at websites such as Fudge or Love. However, this was a good point as we as young designers get to know more about the life of a designer and their experiences throughout their careers rather than just seeing their work.

I really liked his 'Hand.written.letter.project' which is an on-going self initiated project. Oldham invited designers to record their visual reaction to a letter and its subject matter sent to them. He has since recieved all kinds of letters from the design industry such as ; Thoughtful, Turner Duckworth and Milton Glaser to name but a few. I was suprised to see how many well known designers had replied.

I have since emailed Craig Oldham to ask for a little more information about the design industry and look forward to hearing back from him..... but for now i will keep referring back to his website for new updates and work!
